About Shredded Feet

Shredded Feet Appalachian Dancers, existed to perform Old Time Music and Dances from the Appalachian Mountain regions of The United States of America.

The Team was formed in the early 1990's by people who were already interested in dance.

Most Members had a background in mainly Morris, Clog and Tap. However, people with little or no previous experience became valuable members.

Past Events

Shredded Feet performed at numerous events over the past few years. These have included Ceilis, Dance Festivals, Carnivals, and more bizarre locations such as Shopping Centres and Circus Tents.

Although most events were in Lancashire, the team in 1997 travelled to the Loire Valley in France to perform at a number of events in the town of Azay-Le-Rideau during their Agricultural Festival and as part a the Town Twinning ceremony with Croston in Lancashire. They successfully returned to the town for the Apple Festival in 2000.

The society also performed for various charities on numerous occasions

Meetings

The Society met to practise and discuss forthcoming events, at The RAF Club , Next to the Railway Station, Leyland, 8-10pm, every Tuesday

Attendance was not compulsory, but Members were encouraged to attend practises regularly in order to learn dances and music to a standard that allowed then to take part in the teams live performances.

Each practise began with a session for beginners and eventually progressed through to the advanced level.

There was a weekly subscription of £1 to cover the cost of the practise.

Bookings

Shredded Feet were available to perform at almost any venue, indoor or outdoor, as the team carried its own dance floor which could be assembled anywhere there was a reasonably flat surface.

Large fees, big dressing rooms, lavish spreads of food and alcoholic beverages were always appreciated. However, the team were so dedicated to the art of Appalachian dance and music that they were willing to sometimes do without all the trappings which are usually afforded to showbiz royalty, and perform for charitable causes.
